Interviewing For Investigation of Accidents & Incidents

It is widely recognised that interviewing witnesses and dealing with human factors such as emotion and/or loyalties is the most difficult part of any investigation. This booklet of Investigative Corporate Interviewing is designed to fill the vacuum of information and provide you with support and advice with regard to planning and conducting an effective witness interview as part of the investigation of a workplace accident or incident.

The booklet was designed to be used as part of a programme of learning, however, careful implementation of the information contained will provide any investigator with a structured plan to utilise during any interview.

The key to the successful outcome of any investigation is to remain impartial and contextualise all information and evidence. This can be achieved by following the five point strategy described in the booklet. Obviously, being able to practice this strategy and gain constructive and supportive feedback in a learning environment will develop skills, however, all the necessary detail is contained within the booklet for those who are required to undertake workplace investigation and have had little or no training.
