"We are ready to finish up the book of Jeremiah. The first 11chapters that we are going to cover this evening, Jeremiah 35-45, provide a historical inset to the theme of the prophecy. What we primarily have in these chapters is a historical account of the events of Jeremiah’s
ministry. We have the account of his warning to the governmental leaders in his day, the story of his subsequent arrest and, finally, the story of the Babylonian invasion of Judah and subsequent captivity of Jerusalem and Judah. We have the account of those Jews who were left behind and their electing to move to Egypt in spite of Jeremiah’s warnings to the contrary. We have the
consequences of that. These chapters deal primarily with contemporary events and, yet, they also provide lessons for us today. There is a lot of insight, a lot of things that we can gain and learn from parallels with the work that God did through Jeremiah, the work that God is doing in our day and on out ahead of us. Also, these historical inset chapters provide kind of a summary or setting to help us to understand the context in which Jeremiah was writing.
