COMBAT LIFESAVER COURSE: INSTRUCTOR GUIDE With TCCC / TC3 AND 68W10 FIELDCRAFT

The combat lifesaver is a soldier trained to provide emergency care as a
secondary mission. He does not replace the combat medic. The primary mission of the
combat lifesaver is his combat mission. The combat lifesaver provides care to the
members of his squad or crew as his mission permits. When he has no combat mission
to perform, the combat lifesaver may assist the combat medic in providing care to
injured soldiers and in evacuating casualties.

The combat lifesaver receives training in enhanced first aid procedures and in selected
medical tasks. Combat lifesaver training is a bridge between the first aid (self-aid and
buddy-aid) training given to all soldiers during basic training and the medical training
given to MOS 68W10, Health Care Specialist (combat medic).

The U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School developed the Combat
Lifesaver Course as part of its continuing effort to provide health service support to the
Army. The Combat Lifesaver Course is used by both active duty and reserve
component soldiers in combat arms, combat support, and combat service support units.

LESSON PLAN OVERVIEW
There are ten lesson plans in this subcourse. The first page of each lesson contains the
lesson objective (task, conditions, and standards), equipment and supplies required
during the lesson, method of instruction, and references (if any) for additional research.
Below is a list of the lessons. You will need to determine the amount of time required to
conduct instruction, conduct tests, and to conduct reteach sessions and retests based
upon your particular situation. The suggested training schedule given on pages ix
through xii is one possible schedule. Your circumstances may require a different
schedule.
