NGUGI WA THIONG'O'S FICTION AS A NARRATIVE OF DECOLONISATION

Progress and development in human society have created remarkable contradictions.On one hand there is the idea modernity with improved quality of life.On the other, the same changes are threatening many aspects of community life leading to loss of ethics, heritage , traditions, shared beliefs and moral values.Generally, Post colonial studies addresses the theoretical issue of the relation of culture and society, particularly the role that the culture plays in furthering imperialism and the consequences to the society. Thiong’o's work spell out a direct connection between culture and politics.This thesis is a study of Thiong'o's works through the prism of post colonial literary evolution of Africa which reflects the social transformation that is currently underway in the African continent.
