When the facility that hides the portal is overrun by a surprise attack from werewolves, Azrielle is sent to investigate. He soon learns how dangerous the threat is and how even his kind could not survive an invasion from the underworld. If Karnak's werewolves find the Gate Keepers of the Protectorate, it is over. He will be free to invade and unleash an unholy hell upon the planet.
And so begins the chase to track down the foul beasts and eliminate them. But as the peril grows, the Protectorate begins to fracture. The truth about their 'unified race' is exposed and Azrielle finds himself fighting traitors from within. All the long years of him being branded a heretic are nothing compared to the lunacy of the vampires who wish to see Karnak succeed.
