Brass Canyon

While on a sales trip Nathan Wyatt learns his wife has been badly injured in an accident. As he rushes home his car breaks down on a mountain pass, and the only ride to come along leaves him at the Brass Canyon exit. He had never heard of this exit and is alarmed by the fact the freeway is devoid of traffic. After a sleepless and hungry night, he elects to hike up the road toward Brass Canyon to find the man who stranded him there or a phone to call for help. What he encounters are a succession of situations that challenge his grip on reality: an armored homicidal warlord, an alchemical calamity, brutal repression of a political demonstration, a menacing beast, a hijacked séance, incarceration, passage on a death train and an encounter with nuclear terrorists. He fears for his life, questions his sanity, and doubts his own existence. As he plunges into Brass Canyon in search of a phone he periodically encounters Mort Angeles, the driver who left him at the derelict exit. Those perplexing confrontations cause Nathan to wonder if he was stranded at the Brass Canyon exit or purposefully delivered there. Nathan’s watch may count the hours of this fateful detour, but he learns time is slippery in Brass Canyon.
