When New York private investigator Claude MacVee arrives in Lakefront, Pennsylvania, his search for a missing model soon evolves into the hunt for a much darker truth surrounding her disappearance. As clues to her whereabouts emerge, MacVee also learns that a newspaper reporter probing the connection between events at an old hotel and several murdered women is in contact with an informant claiming to know the man responsible for their deaths. While collaborating with her on the case, MacVee soon fears the reporter is falling prey to the scheme of a serial killer who has sought her out—apparently as a means of revealing his gruesome deeds to the world. Only too late does MacVee realize a trap has been set, leaving him as much a victim as the reporter in his search for both the living and the dead. Or is it the dead who may still be living?
