1. The French Cure, Jonquils Past, Jonquils Present (When the Jonquils Bloom Again, 3rd Edition)

This segment, the first three chapters of the book, When the Jonquils Bloom Again, available in print and kindle, is of castles, fortresses, and peasants fighting and dying for France in 1358; of a middle aged woman, Sharon, in the arms of the man she loves all her life in 1989; and jonquils: flowers first planted by her Great Grand Aunt, Sarah, a freed slave’s daughter.

Sharon with her husband, tourists, she dreams back to the battle, a woman fighting on the ramparts where she stands. With French blood in her veins. Was this her ancestor reaching out to her over the centuries? Stressed, irritable bowel syndrome, did this woman suffer as Sharon suffers? Did her husband help her as Sharon’s husband helps her?

The next two chapters are of Jonquils past and present. Sharon’s American ancestor, the brother of a boy destined to become governor of Virginia, the boys have a special relationship. The family farm a result of their friendship, slavery cannot stop a brother’s love. Slavery and wars and racism, and love weave a path around, past, and over her family for all their history. Life comes anew ever spring as jonquils bob yellow heads around the original family cabin on the banks of Virginia’s New River 165 years after they were first planted.
