The Mystery of Ancient Cartography

When we inherit historical maps, of which there are numerous examples left to us through the ages, we can preserve and appreciate them for many reasons. Artistry, evolution in map making, and antiquarian tastes are a few. There are however a collection of maps highly anomalous in their depictions and clearly evident of an alternative history. In fact we have a legacy of maps bestowed upon us in our western view of the world for which we have yet to collectively revel and awe upon their interpretation. The academic world has fallen silent without any answers. What we find on the maps simply astound us. There seems to be knowledge of continents long before they were discovered, knowledge of longitude and they are topographic in nature, implying complex analysis of the region with a high technology.
