The story is about a gringo (myself) and a younger Mexican-Indian woman named Maria. During my three years (2001-2003) in Mexico, I was often attacked by jealous men. I was the only “outsider†in a xenophobic Aztec Indian town of six-thousand population.
Mexico love: Many men believe that a Mexican woman would make a good wife; and many Mexican women are interested in US males. Readers will learn some of the rewards and pitfalls. Multicultural and political issues include sexual harassment, unequal civil and criminal rights, and discrimination: cultural, racial, language, age, and gender.
I resisted being driven out of town. I was jailed five times for fighting off my assailants. Despite the conflict, I had many friends and emotional lovers. I even loved some of my enemies, because it was more fun that way.
Some citizens and police officers claimed that I was an undercover DEA agent. This was a potential death sentence from the marijuana growers, who were important to the local economy.
