Description
This is the story of how one woman makes the difficult choice to leave an abusive marriage, separate herself from her family and travel alone to Italy, Morocco and Croatia to find, instead, what she truly wanted from life. Setting out to discover who she was now that she was not the wife, the daughter, the sister of people whom had hurt her deeply. She wanted to find out who she really was, not who she was expected to be. Along the way she finds romance, friendship, laughter, adventure, kindness, great sadness and beauty and answers to questions she has pondered for a lifetime. She begins her vision quest in the California wine country, traveling to the great sights of Italy; Venice, Cinque Terre, Florence, Rome, Positano and Sicily. There, she meets a tall, dark and handsome Italian man, who may not be who he claims to be. Whilst surfing and practicing yoga in Morocco, she meets two men who profoundly affect her perception of life. The journey finally ends on the tiny island of Vis in the middle of the Adriatic, where she had lived and loved 37 years previously. She retraces her steps and finds herself transported to a place that time has nearly forgotten. Along the way she is kept company by a cadre of correspondents from home, via e-mail, who cheer her on, support her choices and give loving advice. While the intent of the adventure is serious in nature, the occurrences are often funny and insightful. Ultimately, the experiences of the journey strip away the facade of her past, revealing what she sought, her You-ness.
