This small e-book, 'Understanding Academic Journals and its Editors' aims to be an informal reflection on the world of journals, to help us understand them, as we scientists need them.

In these pages, therefore, you will not find a theoretical exhaustive description of what journals are or their history and role in academia and research dissemination, which can be easily found on the internet; but rather to understand and open up a path and a different methodology when disseminating your research through scientific journals.

It is presumed that the traditional idea that research has to be sold on their own does not work very well, at least in some fields of knowledge; idea that implicitly assumes a process of publishing that requires sending our articles to the pre-selected journals one after the other until it is published, which it may take more than several months and years.

The approach presented here, and which is developed in more depth in the e-book 'Publish in Journals 3.0', is to cooperate with the journals and their editors, because they also need content and trusted authors; and to accomplish that, the best strategy is to network and collaborate with them, either through serving as peer-reviewer or being involved in their editorial boards: this way we will understand better their world and could approach the process of publishing in journals in a more successful and mature way.
