Sample of Expat Tales of Life in the Philippines

In chapter one Gary recalls the first time he ever flew to the Philippines and gives us an insight into exactly how he was feeling.

A wide range of emotions that included; fear, excitement, hope... and everything in between.

Here's what Gary wrote...

"The flight to Memphis was only 45 minutes in duration, so it was short and sweet. First leg of my trip was over but I still had a long way to go. Not much time to blow in Memphis, as my connecting flight was only 50 minutes from loading time. No time to check out Graceland but the King was already dead anyway and he was not in the Building.

No time to go to Beale Street and look for any blue suede shoes, either. I thought about how those would look on me if I bought a pair and arrived in the Philippines with them on.

A fancy clothing store in the Memphis Airport did have some sporty alligator shoes but at $250 a pair, they were more than I wanted to spend. I didn’t need any fancy shoes, I thought, as I was going to get some sand between my toes in the Philippines. I didn’t like wearing shoes anyway unless I had to! I still don’t. "

The rest of the book continues in a similar vein and we are propelled into an exciting, vibrant and eclectic world of people, places and strange events.
