Don't Shoot

The sound of bullets and our heavy breathing blended together in my ears. Our feet hit the forest floor heavily, already getting tired. A bullet whizzed past my ear, only a few inches off its destination. Carmen ran ahead of me, her black coat flying. I was putting her at risk. Was our happiness worth her life? She looked back at me, and her vivid blue eyes sent me back to when I had first seen them.
