BOOK DESCRIPTION:
Kai is overjoyed about her pregnancy and her romantic new beginning with Frank, a man who satisfies her heart as much as her extraordinary libido. In spite of the outrageous antics of his salty ex-wife, the two enjoy a passion-filled relationship. The baby Kai is carrying is a miracle all its own, after she received a grim diagnosis that she would never be able to conceive. But what Frank doesn’t know could hurt him because he has no clue that the bun in Kai’s oven may belong to another man. For Kai, it means she will have to get more than her hands dirty to discreetly solve her baby-daddy dilemma.
Meanwhile, Kai uses her skills as an investigative TV reporter to uncover the truth about her sister, LaNaya, now a suspected murderer. The evidence draws Kai into a world of swinger parties, online prostitution, and something far more sinister. As she gets closer to solving the crime, she finds danger right on her own doorstep. In addition to Kai’s off-air drama, her ex-boyfriend crosses a line that can’t be uncrossed when he does the unspeakable.
Playing the role of Kai’s protector, Frank hires a bodyguard to keep her safe, but someone at the security agency causes Kai to look at her relationship from a new perspective. Can Kai’s love for Frank withstand the chaos of the ultimate test? Who really fathered her child? Will Kai catch the real killer and clear her sister’s name before it’s too late?
Kai usually reports on the leading news story, but she suddenly finds herself right in the middle of it. In this second installment of the “Motor City Drama Series,” sex, secrets, and murder make for primetime drama.
EXCERPT:
"I know we’re running late, I had to change clothes a few times,” I explained. "A lot of my suits barely fit me."
Frank smiled at me. “Well, you look good.”
“Really?” I asked, a bit shocked, considering that I felt bloated and—even worse—had the skin of a prepubescent teenager.
He kissed me. “You’ll always be sexy to me.”
“Even seven months from now, when I’m out to here?” I asked, indicating a big, round belly with my hands.
He kissed me again, with even more intensity and passion. “Does that answer your question?”
I slipped into my UGG boots and carried my high heels in a tote bag. I was aware that pregnant women were only supposed to wear flats, but I wasn’t completely ready to part with my sexy footwear.
Frank drove his Cadillac Escalade, and we walked into Channel 5 together. Everyone knew we were an item, and there was no shame in our game anymore.
As I walked through the crowded newsroom, some of the female employees cast envious glances, but I knew I had nothing to be insecure about. Frank was finally all mine.
Right in front of everyone, he kissed my cheek and said, “I love you, baby.”
“Love you too,” I said.
“I’m gonna make that call about getting you a bodyguard today.”
“It’s going to be so strange having someone follow me around everywhere.”
“He’ll only tag along when I’m not able to be with you. And don’t you be thinkin’ there’s gonna be any of that Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner action. I’m gonna see to it that the agency sends you the ugliest guard they’ve got.”
I laughed. “As fine as you are, you’ve got nothing to worry about. I won’t be singin’ ‘I Will Always Love You’ to any man but you.”
He kissed me on the cheek again. “I know, but there’s no harm in taking extra precautions. I’ll see you at lunch.”
“Sounds good.”
We went our separate ways, Frank to his office and me to my desk.
I turned my attention to my computer monitor. I opened my email inbox. The message on the screen was the first step to solving my biggest mystery…
