When Sam is once again forced to spend his summer holidays in the dreary village of Ulfvale with his absent minded Gran, he wishes only for excitement and adventure. Unfortunately for Sam he soon finds that such a thing can come at a steep price and after making a deal with the mysterious Mr Gibb, he is thrown head first into the dangerous and magical world of Arcadia.

In order to survive and reclaim his old life, Sam must ally himself with a band of unlikely heroes and face the dark powers which hold Arcadia together while at the same time, learning to accept that he may no longer be the ordinary boy he once was.
