In Michael Carter-Williams: The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball's Young Elite Point Guards, you'll read about the inspirational story of basketball's premier point guard, Michael Carter-Williams. Michael Carter-Williams has emerged as a high profile point guard in the NBA amongst the likes of Derrick Rose, Steve Nash, Russell Westbrook, and Rajan Rondo after sporting a stellar 2013-2014 NBA season. While the Philadelphia 76ers still have a ways to go before becoming a contending team in the NBA, Michael Carter-Williams has offered new hope for the city.

After a promising rookie season, MCW has a bright future ahead of him as he will be a center piece for the rebuilding 76ers franchise.

It will be exciting to see how Michael Carter-Williams and the 76ers do in the years to come.

An excerpt from the book:

Besides being the only two 76ers to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award, Carter-Williams and Iverson share a love of playing time. Carter-Williams, who averaged more than 34 minutes-per-game as a rookie, appears to mirror Iverson in this underrated aspect of the game. Iverson, though shorter than Carter-Williams at more-or-less six feet tall, would have played 48 minutes a game had coaches allowed that to happen. Like Carter-Williams, Iverson did not have an especially big frame, yet he repeatedly took beatings from drives to the hoop and never complained – an endearing quality to the hard-nosed Philadelphia sports fans. Iverson’s drive and determination made up for any lack of a jump shot or other basic basketball shortcoming – lessons that can heed the shooting challenged Carter-Williams. There is no doubt that Carter-Williams can score, based on his numerous double-digit point totals, but Iverson can certainly stand as an on-the-court role model for Carter-Williams as a player who found any way he could to get to the basket when his shot was not falling or opposing defenses were taking him out of his game.

There is no guarantee that Rookies of the Year will become great players or that Carter-Williams will follow in Iverson’s footsteps and become the next 76ers star. Look for Carter-Williams to put on a little more weight in the off-season to overpower most of his opponents and to sharpen his shooting skills. He may never be seen as an elite shooter, but considering the potential talent around him and his ability to run an offense, Carter-Williams only needs to shoot well enough to keep defenders honest and not drop back to cut off any drives to the basket. If this happens, the holes in Carter-Williams’ armor will disappear and Philadelphia’s days of high draft picks should fade into memory.
