Most hymnals emphasize music and seasons, but this one features the authors in their own eras. Various hymnal numbers are included to help people find the hymns in their synod's book.

This is an ideal way to study the hymns of Luther, Gerhardt, Kingo, and others, grouped by author. Since hymns teach Christian doctrine so well. they are worth studying on their own.
