Description

Society & Providence
When we stop to consider the fact that there have been no great women artists we begin to open a door into the mysterious world of society and providence. There have been great women in other fields of study: Madam Curie, Helen Keller, Mary the Mother of Jesus, Virginia Wolfe. The list could go on and on. We could draw upon the list of every endeavor known to modern mankind and find women successful in such fields. When we come to art it seems to add a certain amount of curiosity to it. It cannot be because there are no art schools open to women or women who are not interested in pursuing the beauty of art. Let us consider the great women who gave birth to great artists. Did the great artists consider their Mothers to be influential in their lives? Alternatively, let us turn to God himself who engraved on the tablets of Mount Sinai one of the commandments, “Honor your Father and your Mother.” Women are important even in the mind of God. Art imitates nature. If the nature is great why is not greatness evident in the woman artist. God doesn’t see as mankind sees; society judges things differently than the museum curator.
