The Pilgrimage of Love

Fleeing from his intolerable life in a society that condemns his deviant predilections, the noble youth Poliphilus finds himself an honoured guest in the land of the epicenes, beings intermediate between male and female, whose dominant motive is insatiable lust, which they envisage as continuing even beyond the grave. After an alchemical wedding to his new-found love, the beautiful but enigmatic Polia, he creates for himself a new life that surpasses in bizarre practices anything that he had even imagined in his old life.
