Among the Valiant, first published in 1966, recounts the Second World War experiences of Mexican-American Raul Morin (wounded at the Battle of Bulge) plus the combat heroism by other Mexican-Americans during World War Two and the Korean conflict in the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force. Highlighted are numerous Medal of Honor awardees of Hispanic descent, with moving descriptions of their selfless actions during intense combat. The book fills a gap in military literature by exploring the role of Hispanics in combat, and the importance of their military service in shaping their post-war identity in American society. Included are 21 pages of photographs.
