It is said that having left the village Basarke, he and his grandmother went to Goindwal Sahib and settled there. Even there he sold boiled grams to earn his bread. He began to take part in religious meetings or congregations which were organized by Guru Amardas Sahib Ji. He soon became a dedicated disciple of the Guru and started taking part in the development of the town Goindwal Sahib.
