Description

The "tea party" movement that arose in 2009 required both its participants and its opponents to learn what were the principles of the "original" "tea party" of the time of the American Revolution. In late 2009 the author, formerly a litigation partner at the Washington D.C. law firm Arnold & Porter, with an extensive pro bono practice in the international pro-democracy field, and in defending minority individuals under government prosecution, began research into the vast trove of original documents and scholarly analysis now available over the Internet, to explore this question. That beginning grew into five years of research and writing involving differing conceptions of human dignity and the consequent proper nature of government and its relationship to the human beings it either serves or rules. The author realized in the course of the research that to call America "The Great" is proper and correct, not only in terms of power, but in terms of the superior moral status of "the American conception of human dignity" over the European, or "Royal conception of human dignity." Includes extensive selections of dozens of important speeches on government, from Pericles (2444 years ago) and Demosthenes (2355 years ago) to today, with commentary and analysis. Focuses on governmental and theoretical rather than military aspects of the American colonial period, American Revolution, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the American conquest of the Philippines, Woodrow Wilson's 1914 intervention in Mexico, World War I, World War II, and Vietnam War. Canadian perspectives on America presented. Extensive examination of British government actions in World War II. Reaching contemporary times, Sisson sees a danger of return to the "great power sphere-of-influence" kind of global politics that facilitated the devastating wars of 1914-1918, 1939-1945, and the Cold War, and urges consideration of revival of the United States Constitution statehood-admission system on a 100+ year process to unite the peoples of the truly democratic nations and ensure the really effective spread of democracy to all peoples world-wide. The Scottish people, approaching "leave the UK vote" in Sept. 2014, especially urged to look into this option; so too the people of England, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Concluding chapter on contemporary (2013-2014) issues in America looks into the "IRS tea party suppression" scandal with the author's insights, based on long personal experience with 501(c)(3) nonprofits and the IRS tax-exemption process. Politicization of the federal permanent civil service, and the global naval ambitions of the present government of China (which author calls "the tyrant government in Beijing" so as to make clear it is not the Chinese people themselves who are at fault) documented in detail and discussed.
