AMERICA'S BEST OF TIMES: AND HOW TO GET THEM BACK

I began writing Americas Best of Times as a memoir for my grandaughter with hopes that she would enjoy the read and hopefully gain some insight into what America was like in the 50's and 60's. It soon became evident to me that America has lost much of it's greatness and as I began to piece together the events and cultural changes of that era in chronological progression I realized that most of the change can be attributed to political leadership and the ever-widening divide between our ruling political parties. Our Founders knew that the greatest danger to the Republic was an uninformed or agenda-driven populace that could vote themselves money using power-hungry politicians whose only interest was in furthering their party's interests. This has happened on both ends of the political spectrum. On one hand America over the past 50 years has been transformed into a huge welfare state with a majority of voters that are quite happy to be led by hard-left socialist idealogues. On the other hand we have some of America's biggest corporations and business groups lobbying for millions more low wage workers without any respect for our borders. And we have seen the results that selfish ambition on both sides has had on America in recent years with shocking clarity.

Many people say "Washington is broken". Its not broken. It is being run by the people the voters are sending to it. The American Constitution is one of the greatest documents of the modern world. It has withstood attacks daily from every special interest group for over two hundred years and although some of them have put some big dents in it, it still survives. Without it, and without God, America will not survive in the form we have known it. In this book I am making an effort to contrast two markedly different eras and educate the reader to the thoughts of the Founders, to the meaning and effects of socialism and liberalism, and to the need to educate our youth to the wide differences in political thought that exists. Simply put, when they vote for "change", they need to know what "change" they are getting.

The purpose of my story is to entertain, inform, and educate Americans to what is happening in this country and to encourage them to seek knowledge and understand what constitutes the fabric of today's politics and social change in order that they can take an active part in saving our country.
