Amelia is a very gifted cellist who had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, adoring boyfriend, and a promising future. Then, in a blink, all of that is taken from her in a car accident. Amelia wakes up just to find herself out of her injured body. Caught between life and death, Amelia has to make the most important decision she’ll ever make.
When Abram mysteriously rushed out of the ICU, Amelia followed him. What did she see and hear that make her choose to slip away and die?
Have a glimpse:
I need a break. I feel like I’m going to go crazy. I wait at the door for Nurse Ramirez and get out of the ICU together with her when she finishes her shift at 6 A.M. I walk aimlessly before I decide to leave the hospital compound. It is then that I spotted Abram curling up into a ball beside an old black truck, the Chevrolet C10, at the open air car park. He has something important to care for, yet, here he is rocking himself to and forth like a wounded beast. The Abram I know never lie.
“What’s wrong Abram?†I’m taken aback when Abram uncurls and looks up right into my eyes as though he could hear me. Could he?
It takes awhile for Abram to leave the ground he’d been rooted in. My heart lurches and thuds seeing his colorless face, all the blood must have diverted from it. He inches forward like a “lifeless†zombie. I walk beside him all the way to his car. Abram fumbles like a man in the dark for the key and starts the car and drive in a way I would have hesitated to ride with him in “real lifeâ€. Abram is really not himself. He doesn’t switch on the radio the way he usually does. Other than the roaring engine, I can clearly hear the rumbling of Abram’s stomach. When was the last time he ate? Is my condition critical? Or is there anything else? Where is he going?
“Why Abram?†And knows what, as though it’s audible, Abram turns towards the passenger seat responsively.
