Eddie is the tragic protagonist of the play. He is obsessed with love of Catherine, though it is improper.
In his unproduced screenplay titled “The Hook” Arthur Miller had talked about the corruption on the Brooklyn docks. Eventually, he developed a plot for the present play “A View from the Bridge.” He disclosed that the plot was related to him as a true story by a lawyer who worked with longshoremen.
