CYBERCRIME: Challenges for criminology (P Publishing Criminology Series Book 7)

In 2009, US President Obama appointed Howard Schmidt (formerly an eBay and Microsoft executive) to the post of White House head of cyber-security. His job was to develop a strategy to secure US online networks, to formulate an organized response to ‘cyber incidents’ and to lead a national campaign for cybercrime awareness and education. This illustrates the growing threat of cybercrime to national security, public safety, personal privacy and civil liberties. In fact, the threat has increased significantly with the current recession as cybercriminals target consumers seeking cheaper products and services online. The aim of this book is to identify and analyze the challenges that cybercrime poses for criminology and criminal justice beginning with the actual definition of cybercrime.
