Description

A lawyer thinks he's just going to be eating his omelet when he meets a young waitress with a futuristic gene treatment...that the law doesn't know how to handle.

Why? Because in the near future, we will be able to genetically engineer our bodies.
Phase I: Curing diseases like cancer, Parkinson’s, and hemophilia
Phase II: Improving our characteristics like athletic ability or intelligence
Phase III: Cosmetic changes, like hair color or smooth skin

This science fiction short story is about a young woman who changes her hair color…genetically…so her hair follicles produce magenta hair. She gets fired for having an “unnatural, faddish, unprofessional” hair color. Problem is, it’s her real color (now) because it’s from her genes. The law says a person can’t be discriminated in employment because of their race or color, i.e. their genetic characteristics. So…what happens when people can change their genes? How will the law deal with that? As a fixed genetic characteristic (which is the case today), or as a choice?

This science fiction short story (47 pages) explores what could happen. Part science fiction, part love story, part legal thriller, this story will give you food for thought and maybe make you smile.
