Winter's Mermaid

Pluma de la Osa is a sixteen year old girl living on the fictional island of Tica who dreams of independence from the expectations of her once prominent family. She has the gift of being able to smell emotions and thoughts, which she keeps secret. As the novel progresses, newly married and pregnant Pluma rebels and befriends Tica's public enemy, an Icelandic writer suspected of bringing sickness to the island. Pluma must choose to either honor her family's legacy or leave the island to pursue her dreams.
