Description
Governance
• The system of rules, practices and processes by which a company is directed and controlled
• Essentially involves balancing the interests of the many stakeholders in a company—its shareholders, management, customers, suppliers, financiers, government and the community
• Provides the framework for attaining a company's objectives, it encompasses practically every sphere of management, from action plans and internal controls to performance measurement and corporate disclosure
In early 2012 and in conjunction with PennEnergy, we began a bi-monthly blog titled Governing Energy. The purpose of this series is to shed light and stimulate discussion on issues faced by organizations, especially in the heavy industry and energy sectors as they adjust to new regulatory and social requirements resulting from a series of major incidents.
This book is a collection of the first forty-six blog editions.
• Each chapter or blog edition can be read as a standalone piece although references are made to other chapters as appropriate
• In today’s fast-paced environment, a short to the point and expectantly thought provoking discussion best conveys information and knowledge
• This model may form the basis for a greater understanding of solutions available to meet daunting challenges.
Dr. Scott M. Shemwell is an acknowledged authority and thought leader in field operations and risk management with over 30 years in the energy sector leading turnaround and transformation processes for global S&P 500 organizations as well as start-up and professional service firms. He is the Managing Director of The Rapid Response Institute, a boutique consulting and software firm focused on helping clients attain Organizational Agility & Resiliency.
