Description

Many lifelong gardeners start with an early interest in perennials. The yearly flowering of deep blue meadow sage adds depth to frothy spring pastels, while tall garden phlox signals mid-summer, and asters herald the upcoming fall. Every year we delight again in the lush, fragrant peony and the soft blue blossoms of baptisia. Perennials reward us extravagantly, giving generous results to the work required.

Join me for this walk among those perennials that perform successfully without a lot of fuss. I've explored this beautiful world of perennials in greater depth than in my e-book, The Mid-Atlantic Garden. I’ve included sketches of more of my favorites and additional guidance for both beginning and experienced perennial gardeners. Avoid some of the pitfalls and grow more reliable plants for our climate.
