Description

Most often than not life is criticized and most often than not life is insulted and blamed. Through this tale of a boy’s courage and survival in his homeland of Cameroon and in the streets of Switzerland, man’s relationship with life is brought to the open and tested. Joshua’s encounter with corruption and tribalism in Cameroon, and his experience with xenophobia in Switzerland is a flamboyant exhibition of man’s involvement and responsibility in every disaster and pain on Earth. Hence, we can condemn life all we want, but Man is truly no better! This is what Joshua is trying to tell us in this inspirational tale of courage and sacrifice.

When Joshua lost his father at the age of 15, he knew exactly what he wanted to do at the end of the school year. He wanted to return home and continued his education at the local public secondary school. This would reduce the expenditure of the family and ease the burden on his mother. Painfully, things didn't work out at home as he had thought and hoped. Due to the tense and unstable atmosphere that his presence created, he was forced to leave home again. In his new town, he was unable to let go the bitterness against his family until he met Nancy. She and her parents showed him love and support like he had never known. With the calmness and stability that their love and concern brought him, he was able to trust life again. But all the joy and hope was lost when Joshua completed high school and realized his future was gloomy because of favouritism and corruption. Determined to do something about it, he joined a group advocating the secession of Southern Cameroon. A criminal in the eyes of the government, he was able to escape to Europe for safety and freedom. Surprised and shocked by the hostile and anti-foreigner policies, Joshua lost faith in mankind and lost his way in Switzerland. Thankfully, he was rescued by a Swiss family and offered shelter to contemplate his future: Should he keep hope alive and remain illegally in a country that had no love for him, or should he return home and fight for the independence of Southern Cameroon?
