Life and Culture of Ancient Indian Ashramas and Hermitages

It is an urgent need of the hour that rational and scientific studies are carried out on the life and culture of ancient Indian Ashramas. Dr. R.K. Vatsa dared to take up this untouched issue and made a great break through in one of the obscured aspect of study. His studies have made it clear that A„ramas in ancient India were the seat of learning just like the modern universities. The teachers and students used to lead a very simple and austre life. That is why, the seats of learning were called A„ramas. The a„ramites excercised lot of „rama (penances) in gaining and imparting the metaphysical and physical knowledge. The training given in spiritual methods in Ashramas made students eligible to be an ideal social and human beings in society. They used to be asset for the society.
