Description

It's been almost ten years since Kat and Chuck were married after all the turmoil and adventure of their meeting and dealing with the bad guys, the injury to and almost losing her Uncle Ernie, Kat having to kill a man before he killed her. It's been a happy ten years with her running and expanding Ernie's kickboxing gym and Chuck, a former FBI agent, working for the local DA as an investigator. All of the men in Kat's life still surrounded her. Soon after marriage, They were blessed with Ruby, a beauty just like her mother who held all those same men in the palm of her hand. With her daughter's intelligence, a devastatingly sweet smile and the twinkle in her eyes, Kat often commented to Chuck with a knowing grin and a laugh that Ruby would someday control the whole world, mostly the men.
Big Bill and Del owned and expanded Jacks and Diamonds Security. Bill married Mary, a former blood bank technician. They now had two children. Del remained a bachelor, playing the field, still looking for that one woman to love forever.
Kat's uncle, Avery retired from the police force, now consulting and training in self defense and investigation skills to other departments. Kat's other uncle, Ernie kept his hand in part-time kick boxing training, still loving the work but also enjoying his free time fishing, playing cards with his friends and spoiling his grand niece, assisted by his brother and his brother's wife.
Tracy, now a woman and best friend to Kat, worked and counseled families of missing children. Jinx, Kat's other best friend remained so and still helped out, part-time at the kick boxing gym. She and her husband, Steve had two children, a two year old and a six-year old, both girls.
Kat lost Buttons to old age and infirmity and buried her in a special flower garden along with her tennis ball and her leash at the back of their property. It was a devastating family loss. Chuck surprised his wife and daughter with an almost identical puppy, Christmas two years gone by. She so loved playing with the colorfully wrapped presents, Ruby called her Bows and it stuck as her name.
Unfortunately for everyone, six months ago, on a routine physical, a lump was found in Kat's breast. After more tests, her physician gave her and Chuck the news that it had already spread to other parts of her body. Chemo drugs and radiation slowed the progression at the expense of Kat loosing her hair, her appetite and most of her strength. Bedridden and a shadow of her former self it was now just a matter of waiting for the end.
