The Gin Boys
Description
With work in short supply, two young Englishmen leave home and travel to Australia on a wave of optimism to seek a new life and better prospects. Arriving in Melbourne, the protagonist and his friend Aiden find they were not the only ones to come up with the idea. When employment opportunities run dry in interview rooms crowded with British and Irish immigrants all seeking work, the boys are forced to find other ways to generate an income. Undeterred and eternally optimistic, the often inebriated Aiden decides that making gin illegally and selling it to hard-up Brits is the best way to generate an income, and the lads set out to discover how to distil and realise Aiden's strokes of genius.
In an ode to alcohol, and to gin in particular, to youthful dreams and friendship, the boys set out to learn their trade, but end up learning more about themselves and their place in the world than they imagined.
