Conversation between myself and a cab driver during a recent trip to Amsterdam:
"So, you are American, buddy", my cabbie starts off, in his thick Moroccan accent. "Where are you from exactly?"
"Texas."
Silence for a few seconds. "Oh, okay. Most Americans are crazy. But you from Texas…you crazier. Please don't shoot me!"
Yikes!
We here in Texas may have an image problem: Apparently we are a state obsessed with guns, football, guns, cowboys (real and that one football team of the same name), more football, and BBQ. Apparently there is nothing else here. There is, however, and the world needs to know there is more to see and do here than riding your horse to a Friday night football game, shooting your pistol in the air , and drinking beer on the back of a pickup truck.
Come explore a different side of The Lone Star State, city by city, to uncover some hidden gems, and maybe shed a little light on and debunk some ol' stereotypes as well. However, I couldn't resist-I did mention more than one place to get some good barbecue. I mean, it IS Texas after all...
