This book, published originally in 1907, has long been considered the most thorough work on the legal right of secession of states from the "Union." The author, Albert Taylor Bledsoe, leaves no stone unturned as he delves into the writings and intents of the Founding Fathers on this issue. In fact, most of the body of this work revolves around the those men. He also draws heavily on the later arguments of Calhoun and Webster. This is a "must read" book for the student of Constitutional Law or American History. It has been annotated by an American history teacher, who has provided notes and translations of the frequent Latin terms. Ten illustrations have also been included to give a face to the individuals written about in the book.
