Description

People tend to think of projects as ‘building things’, but this is not the case – projects can vary immensely, from developing and launching a new product, to reorganisation of a department, to the purchase of a business, to relocating an office, to carrying out a major maintenance program, and, of course, to construction projects, to name but a few.
This book, the first of a series of books on project management and related subjects, has been developed to help individuals and organisations to deliver their projects consistently and successfully.
With the introduction of ISO 21500: Guidance on Project Management in 2012, and the support of this by all of the major Project Management Institutes and bodies, the idea of this book is to provide both an introduction into project management and a reference for more seasoned project managers in order to understand and comply with ISO 21500. This guidance has been introduced in order to provide a recognised structure with which to deliver projects successfully.
This book (and, indeed, all of the books in this series) is not academic in its approach to project management, it will not overload the reader with jargon, and nor does it theorise or appraise different project management techniques – there are a myriad of courses available specifically for this purpose. What this book does do is offer a practical perspective, in easy to understand language, on how to manage projects in such a way so as to comply with ISO 21500. It is felt within project management circles that, although at present ISO 21500 is only guidance, it will very quickly be adopted as The Standard, and indeed is already being talked of in these terms.
This book, therefore, will help project managers to have control of their projects; in having that control, projects will be delivered successfully and consistently.
