Before we start arguing about the name we named this incredible city twice as some of us are a bit slow on the uptake. So it's not a guide to two places; the British name was Bombay, and the Indians quite rightly changed it to Mumbai, as is their prerogative.

India's most populous city is an assault to the senses, teeming with humanity, from the super-rich to the poorest in society. At points, one of the most modern cities in the world, and at others a showcase for poverty, this city will be a barometer for social progression this century. And all that set against the history of the British Empire, that left behind some basic structure, glorious architecture and most importantly of all, the English language.

This could be India's century, and if it turns out to be so, Mumbai/Bombay will be at the front of the charge. A visit to the city now will enable you to catch a snapshot in time; and to witness the many astonishing sights, to taste the fantastic foods, and witness the vibrant culture that permeates throughout this giant city.
