Bashful at the Beach is a romance, without doubt and without apology. It is the story of a local cop and new school teacher starting a romantic relationship during a single summer. The main characters also both happen to be intelligent, compassionate, young women. Officer Deirdre Pleasant is comfortable in her place walking her summer beat at the beach, comfortable in her sexuality, and comfortable in her place among the residents of the small, coastal town. Emily Strong is none of those. She has no idea how the town, or her boss Principal Thompson, will react to her being a gay teacher in a middle school classroom. Until she knows answers to those disturbing questions, she’s bound to be uncomfortable, even frightened. She’s bound to be apprehensive, and one might even say bashful because of her dubious future. Time, as it always does, will tell.
