The Confessions of Sherlock Holmes (Vol. 4): The Woman: Irene Adler & the Journey to America

Volume 4, the longest in the 7 volume series takes Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to America. They spend the summer at Newport Rhode Island with the aristocracy of America at the time when America was engaged in the controversial Spanish-American War. They are the guests of the American writer Edith Wharton. Meanwhile in Holmes' journal, which recounts his travels during the Great Hiatus, Sherlock Holmes travels to Rome and meets again "The Woman" Irene Adler. He is also reunited in Monte Carlo with his bodyguard and former nemesis, Colonel Sebastian Moran. One of the highlights of this volume is the verbal battle between Sherlock Holmes and the future President Theodor Roosevelt regarding the wisdom of America's expanding role in imperial politics.
