This is the third volume of the bilingual picture book series “English-Japanese Bilingual Picture Book Nini & Bonbon,” English-Japanese edition, particularly for learners of the Japanese language. The series name has been changed because the original one was too long.

The first book was originally created so that I could help my daughters learn Chinese. My wife is a native Chinese speaker, but my wife and I decided that I would take on the responsibility of teaching our children Chinese because I have master's degree in TESOL(Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages), a branch of applied linguistics, and I have been teaching languages since 2003.

However, when it came to looking for teaching materials, I could not find good Chinese teaching materials for small children in any bookstores. At the time, my first daughter was only six and my second, only one year old. I was not looking for anything like thick grammar exercise books or Chinese character practice books, but something fun and enjoyable for them, and yet easy for me to use. Then, I realized that they both liked to read books and listen to stories. I also knew that small children are generally good at mimicking. So, I decided to draw pictures of our cats on blank postcards and make up stories, have the kids repeat them after me, and for the older daughter, even let her try to learn the story by heart.

It worked! Now they both have a pretty good basic vocabulary and control over the language! When we went to pay a visit to my parents-in-law last year, my first daughter even recited the story to her grandparents and they were both impressed! Then, I thought there might be some people who would want to do the same for their children, so I decided to publish it in different languages on Amazon.

With this particular volume, you will learn;
1. the names of some daily items found inside your house
2. some basic expressions for asking and answering where things are.

The format of this book is;
1. written in romanized characters (informal language),
2. written in hiragana only (informal language),
3. a combination of hiragana, katakana, and kanji (informal language),
4. and a combination of hiragana, katakana, and kanji (formal language).

Meanings of important words and grammar patterns are also explained on the same page where they appear.

I have recorded the Japanese version of the story read by myself and uploaded to my homepage. I’m sorry, my voice is not too beautiful, but it is free of charge for anyone to download. The link is in the book (on the second page or maybe on the third page, depending on your device and the font size).

Please leave me any comments here or e-mail me directly. I promise that I will read all of your comments and e-mail even though I may not be able to respond to all of them.

Finally, thank you very much and I hope you enjoy it.
