The Gyden: Short stories from "The Casere" series

Conn MacLeod, a retired highly decorated British Army Major has "inherited" a method of passing from this dimension (21st Century Earth) to another; one that is a lot like 9th Century Europe (although it is definitely NOT 9th Century Europe!). With thirty years of planning and preparation for the "trip", it doesn't take him long to utilize his extensive knowledge and extraordinary skills - and the not insignificant amount of gold that he takes with him - to try and reshape the world that he had just "invaded" into one of his own making.

That story is being told in a four part series called "The Casere". The first two volumes, THE AEBELING and THE EAORL, are now available on Amazon as eBooks (and maybe sometime in 2015 as actual books). Part 3, THE MARQUIS, will come out later this year, with the final book due in 2106.
This book is Chapter One of THE GYDEN. It is the first in a collection of short stories told in first person by a number of minor but essential characters in the other books. The stories are designed to fill in the back story from another perspective. I will endeavour to add more when I can.
I had intended to have them available for free as a thanks but I haven't found a way yet. When I do, the series will be free until such time as they constitute a proper book in size.
A warning - they will be out of sequence and have more "adult" content compared to my other books. 18+ recommended.
The first chapter is titled "Elva and Fainche, 874"; and in told by Elva before and after she inadvertently becomes a hostage in Rakiak with Fainche. The second might be Fainche and her kidnapping to Cyme some years earlier.
