Description
QUARAUN AND THE VAMPIRE - INTO THE SWAMP OF DEATH: The autistic transvestite Moon Elf Necromancer, Quaraun wakes up in The Mournful Lamb Inn with no memory of who he is or how he got there, and no idea what has happened to his three missing friends: BeaLuna the Flower Gnome, Bullgaar the Dwarf, and Unicorn the Phooka. Accompanied by a Vampire that knows more then he’s saying, Quaraun tries to uncover the events which led to his waking up in this strange Inn full of undead beings, where he seems to be the only living thing.
LONGER SUMMARY: Quaraun wakes up in the Mournful Lamb Inn with no memory of who he is or how he got there. The people in the inn tell him that he arrived covered in blood.
One of the inn's patrons, a gargoyle-like winged vampire that refuses to say his name, tells Quaraun the inn is the waiting place between life and death, the place where people go after they die, until they are able to come to terms with their death and move on. He explains that everyone here is dead, everyone that is, except for Quaraun who shouldn't be at the inn at all, but he had tried to commit suicide and though his did not die, his lack of wanting to live keeps him trapped at the inn with everyone else.
Each night Quaraun is plagued with nightmares of the horrible events of the previous weeks, and each day he finds himself mysteriously back with the vampire, with no recollection of having ever left his room. Quaraun retells his dreams to the vampire, who continually points out, the dreams are wrong and Quaraun is deliberately turning a blind eye to the horrible event that took place the night before he arrived.
One night Quaraun remembers he was traveling with his beloved Unicorn and attempts to find him, only to discover he can not leave the inn. No one can. The inn sits at the heart of the vast endless Swamp of Death which connects the land of the living with the land of the dead and all attempts to go outside are met with immediately being returned back to the tavern with the vampire.
Quaraun finds he can not leave the inn or find his missing Unicorn until he faces the events of the previous week and comes to terms with them.
