I am not a nutritionist, I don't always follow an eating plan and I certainly do not have the perfect body! I'm guessing that if you have my book these opening words will feel very familiar! Over the years I have tried so many diets and although successful to start with, I would soon put it all back on plus a bit more. With me? Well it has taken me some years, but I believe I now have an eating plan that I can follow easily. So how have I done this?
Well a number of pointers really. First I decided to throw out the word DIET. From now on it would be a dirty word. I would concentrate on healthy eating!
Next, I found the 5:2 eating plan; Eat normally for 5 days a week and fast for two. I found this a very good way of eating but something was still missing. I was feeling really good but the weight was not moving. After much thought and lots of reading I decided it was time to try and cut out Wheat and Dairy. In our modern diet I firmly believe that most of us have an intolerance of Wheat and Dairy foods.
Processed foods and additives have a lot to answer for.
Previous forays into Wheat and Dairy free foods had proved to be very disappointing meals. Dull, bland and tasteless describes much of what I was trying to live on. Not a good advertisement for a healthier life.
I was so excited when I discovered that there are so many people out there creating wonderful foods free of wheat and dairy. The food was tasty, healthy and in some cases positively naughty!
I have tried many recipes and in many cases added my own touch. I have experimented with various nuts, fruits and wheat free flours. I have made some delicious dishes and entertained my friends with this healthy way of eating.
Just a word of warning, remember this food is healthy but be careful as it is easy to put on weight! If you use fruit as a substitute, fruit does have a high sugar content, even nuts contain sugar.
Health Wise, I am losing weight, slowly; more importantly I am maintaining my weight loss. I feel good on the outside, i have confidence in myself. My energy levels are back up, my sugar levels and blood pressure are down. All good. It only took me 60 years to get here!
