In 1991 central East Berlin was a ruined and stultified place. There were bullet holes in the walls, smog in the air from the coal ovens, and no rules at all. This is a story of celebration, but it's also a story of survival, one played out on these streets, at this extraordinary time which will never come again. Noel Maurice landed in 1991 in the art house Tacheles, squatted a year before, and became immersed in the scene. It was a wild, never-ending party in the rubble of the cold war, but there were ghosts in the walls of the city. The dark corners were extremely dark, and the city could swallow you whole.
