Description

A steampunk/cyberpunk book set in a post-apocalyptic future by award winning author, Regina Puckett.

Freedom isn’t a place Harmony would normally travel to, but she’s there on a mission to rescue her brother and cousin, Walker and Journey. Since The Great War, the world has become a barren and unfriendly place. If Harmony didn’t already know that, she certainly does the moment she winds up in the wall-off city of Freedom. It turns out that this city is anything but free. Its people are ruled by a group of huge, spider-looking robots aptly named Overseers.

Harmony’s big plan is to run in, rescue Walker and Journey and then steal one of the Overseers’ steam engines to use in their escape. The only thing going in her favor is an escapee from Freedom and two rusted-out, falling apart robots who have offered their help. With the plans made, all they need is to find a way to sneak Walker and Journey out of their jail cell and figure out how to run a steam engine. Easy right? Throw into this crazy mixture a few Overseers determined not to let them get away and a steam engine low on water. It all turns into a long flight to Forbidden that is fraught with danger.

I think science fiction fans will enjoy this story. I especially enjoyed the two robots who helped Harmony and become the comic relief friends of the adventure. They reminded me a lot of R2D2 and C2PO from Star Wars and added a much needed element of energy and entertainment into this adventure tale that was a little dark. There was a lot going against Harmony right from the start of this tale. Her journey was nearly impossible and the outcome was never very good or in her favor, but she never gave up. Her sense of duty to her family members was the most important thing that drove her on her journey, and I think other readers will admire that and connect with her drive, determination, and fierce, competitive spirit. Never give up! Great message!
