AN ANALYSIS OF VICTOR HUGO'S LES MISÉRABLES: CONSIDERING THE SOCIO-POLITICAL CONDITIONS WHICH CAUSED CONFLICTS IN THE SOCIETY OF 19TH CENTURY PARIS

This research paper analyses the novel Les Misérables by Victor Hugo based on the social political background of the early 19th century Paris. Apart from this major aspect, it also examines other influences including Hugo’s experiences and historical facts. Furthermore it considers the portrayal of social problems and lifestyles by reference to the novel’s characters. Since the story of Les Misérables experiences perpetual revivals such as musical or movie adaptions it has proven to be of great literary value and strong expression of passion.
