Just as it is impossible to make a universal statement
about the Christian world by simply examining the history
of the Catholic church, it is similarly impossible to do the
same for Islam. In order to get a complete understanding
of the modern Islamic world it is critical to understand the
various Islamic denominations, who they are, where they
came from and what they believe. Only in this way, can
we hope to make sense of the complexities of the Islamic
world, its internal divisions, common ground and rifts that
manifest in the form of sectarian violence on the modern
battlefield. CA Soldiers must be aware of these issues to
