Common Proficiency Course, also known as Common Proficiency Test (CPT), is the first stage of CA (Chartered Accounting) examinations. Students who desire to appear for CPT may register after finishing their Secondary examinations, and appear for the examination after Senior Secondary examinations (Class-XII). The CPT examination consists of 200 multiple choice questions, covering four subjects which are divided into two parts. In the First part of the examination, the students are presented with questions pertaining to the Fundamentals Of Accounting, and Mercantile Laws. The Second section has questions that are based on Economics, and Quantitative Aptitude. If a question is answered incorrectly, the candidate is loses 0.25 marks. To clear this test, the candidate needs to score 30 percent marks in every section, and 50 percent marks in aggregate. This pen-paper examination is conducted in the month of June, and December. An online test is also conducted from time to time.
